SUSTech ranks 62th on the Nature Index 2016 Rising Stars recently released by Nature, with its growth rate ranking third worldwide. The rankings identify 100 institutions that show the most significant growth in high-quality research publications according to the change of their absolute contribution value to Nature Index from 2012 to 2015.
Nature Index is regarded as the most authoritative research achievement index in basic sciences, and plays a significant role in evaluating high-quality academic publications of international institutions. In November 2014, Nature Publishing Group issued the global Nature Index with weighted fractional count (WFC) for the first time. The index is calculated based on the number of research papers published by scientific research institutions on 68 natural science journals in the previous year.
Researchers do experiments
In 2015, the WFC of SUSTech was 13.88 (from November 2014 to October 2015), ranking 55th among Chinese universities on Nature Index. In 2016, SUSTech rose to 44th on the list, with its WFC increasing to 19.33 (from May 2015 to April 2016).
SUSTech makes itself one of the Nature Index 2016 Rising Stars with encouraging performance. All subjects of this young university are embracing rapid development with some advantageous subjects gaining momentum. For instance, Department of Chemistry has published 19 articles with its WFC reaching 13.48.
