Johns Hopkins University held clinical medical training at the First Affiliated Hospital of Southern University of Science and Technology (Shenzhen People's Hospital) and the Second Affiliated Hospital of Southern University of Science and Technology (Shenzhen Third People's Hospital). More than 500 clinical health care workers from both affiliated hospitals were joined by staff from Bao’an Maternal and Child Health Hospital at the training course.
The training course was conducted by the Associate Dean of the John Hopkins School of Medicine and Associate Professor of Gynecology & Obstetrics Nancy Hueppchen, Associate Professor of Pediatrics & Vice Chair of Education Nicole Shilkofski, and Associate Professor of Medicine & Associate Vice Chair for Education Danelle Cayea. The course covered standardized patient curriculum design and application evaluation, simulation teaching scenario design, clinical medicine curriculum development ideas and teaching methods, trainee evaluation, and feedback. The training class adopted a combination of lectures and workshops. The lecturers combined theory with teaching experience to fully convey their insights into clinical teaching. In order to ensure the communication between the trainees and the lecturers, the training class arranged a unique lunch break class and free questions and answers. The clinical medical workers who participated in the conference learned new medical education concepts and systems through three days of training, improving their understanding of clinical medical education.

As the founder of modern medical education in the United States, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine has world-leading experience and advantages in clinical teaching. The School of Medicine of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) aims to explore the innovative concept and practice of “New Medical Science.” It seeks to lead the reform of the new medical education model for the training of composite and international leading talents. The successful holding of this training course is a positive attempt of introducing the international advanced education model into the exchange and cooperation between the SUSTech School of Medicine and the Affiliated Hospitals of Southern University of Science and Technology. It also provides a good start for clinical teaching in medical schools and affiliated hospitals in the future.
