SHENZHEN People’s Hospital and Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital became officially affiliated with the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) at plaque-unveiling ceremonies yesterday.
The ceremonies marked a new start for university-hospital cooperation in talent cultivation, discipline development, scientific research and resource sharing.
At the ceremonies, Luo Lexuan, director with the city’s health commission, expressed his hope that the university and two hospitals will take a leading role in education and research in the medical field, enhance capabilities in nurturing medical professionals and contribute to the city’s efforts to become an internationalized regional medical and health center.
Guo Yurong, secretary of the CPC SUSTech committee, said the Medical School of SUSTech and affiliated hospitals will play an important role in establishing the education system of new medical science, creating training modes for high-end professionals and improving the integration of medical science, education and research.
According to SUSTech president Chen Shiyi, the cooperation will support SUSTech in building a high-level medical school.
The medical school and affiliated hospitals will focus on clinical research, make full use of their respective resources, and provide more convenient, improved and higher-level medical services to residents.
In a move to establish a high- quality medical school that meets international standards, SUSTech signed an agreement in 2016 with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to set up a SUSTech-led Medical School Planning Committee to develop cooperation in faculty and subject arrangements, enrollment and technology development.
Under the terms of the collaborative arrangement, Johns Hopkins University experts provide comprehensive support and advice to the committee in areas vital to the new medical school, including curriculum and faculty development, admissions and educational administration policy, facilities and technological infrastructure and clinical clerkship.
Shenzhen People’s Hospital in Luohu District is the largest comprehensive hospital in the city. It has 16 provincial-level key clinical research subjects and 14 city-level research subjects.
Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital in Longgang District is the city’s only comprehensive AAA-level hospital for the treatment of infectious diseases.
