SUSTech at 19th High Tech Fair to showcase spectacular scientific achievements

The 19th Edition of the China International Hi-Tech Fair has kicked off this morning in Shenzhen’s Convention and Exhibition Center, and for the third time SUSTech has presented there. Known as the "First Exhibition of Science and Technology in China", the scientific research results of nearly 30 professors and students of SUSTech were presented, an significant increase compared to the 20 of last year.

SUSTech's achievements in research and development include a number of high-tech fields such as artificial intelligence, electronics, life and health sciences, new materials and various others. It combines forward-looking studies, practicality, interactivity and fun into a high impact, focused and spectacular result for the audiences. SUSTech’s booth fully demonstrated the key cores of the university’s culture through its title: "Research, Innovation, Entrepreneurship - Synergistic Innovation and Entrepreneurship for a Sustainable Development" and became an important window for visitors to see what is going on inside SUSTech.

Located in Hall 8, booth 8A01, the SUSTech Pavilion takes the shape of a bachelor’s cap in green, blue and white colors, creating a simple atmosphere representing the university’s international high-level research and top-notch talents.

In order to show the university in its best light, the presentation focuses on the strong teaching and scientific research developments through clear and eye-catching displays, as well as a huge LED screen. As well as top research results, they also highlighted the university’s reform mission and history, as well as its unique characteristics, faculty, international cooperation programs and various other key points.

"Hummingbird" SKR-1 advanced manned aircraft

In SUSTech’s exhibition, a compact, cutting-edge aircraft attracts lots of attention. It is the "Hummingbird" SKR-1 advanced manned aircraft, created by One Science and Technology and jointly developed by SUSTech - China's first new rotorcraft with independent intellectual property rights. Its high safety, high stability, strong wind resistance, and wide range of uses make it very promising across many fields. The "Hummingbird" SKR-1 is optimized and upgraded in terms of aerodynamic, structural and human-computer interaction using most of the S & T optimization platforms. It has more improvements than conventional rotary-wing aircraft: more aerodynamic performance, better flight performance, better quality and stability, and the optimization of the body's lift coefficient gives it the double safety protection of rotor spin down and trim gliding landing, a fantastic technological feat.

Other high profile projects of SUSTech were centered around AI, such as the single-arm crawler robot and modular robot developed by Professor Yang Shuanghua of Computer Science and Engineering and Associate Professor Ke Wende of of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, a brand new and exciting technology.

Student achievements

Students exhibits were also on display highlighting SUSTech’s key core training model, which focuses on developing students' innovative abilities. 

The fair was a great opportunity for all academic departments of the university to come together, prepare and cooperate closely with each other. They carefully planned their exhibitions in the form of display boards and scientific research achievements, giving visitors the chance to truly understand SUSTech’s great progress and huge potential.
